Iron Eliminator

Sounds like the ads you see in Western Eastern Treasure magazine doesn’t it? Well this "Iron Eliminator" is a little different. This one does not stop your detector from finding iron but does help you locate it before digging your hole or from your excavation if you have already dug it.

If you are like me, there are many times when you get an “iffy” signal and after digging the target and searching and sifting through the dirt only find it to be an old nail, nut, bolt, or what-have-you.

Solution! The magic M.O.A.S. aka . . . Magnet On A Stick. If I’m in a freshly plowed field this is the first tool used to locate the target! I just "stick" the MOAS into the ground where the target was centered and if it is a good target, the MOAS comes out of the ground with nothing attached. If it has a nail or other iron junk stuck to it I recheck the hole and then move on. Using this method allows me to check more iffy signals than I care to dig!

I use rare-earth magnets since they have an extremely strong magnetic pull. Iron items attach to them so intensely most of the time that you can actually feel the impact. If you enjoy fishing, it is actually the same sensation and feeling as getting a strike from a fish!
